I’m going to talk about Game copy rights, specifically Who really needs copy right(enforcement), how fan works and other people using your I.P could benefit you and how you should enforce it. I think a lot of companies a pretty heavy handed with their I.P, mostly Japanese companies but I think there is a better way to handle Fan works.
The people I think that mostly need copy right is indie people or lesser know Games or Game makers, but I do believe all fan works should tell you where the original source is I’m not the biggest Fan of Fan Games(Lol) because I feel like it can be a waste of effort(aside from using fan games to learn Game development) but I definitely don’t think companies should force fan’s to stop developing Fan Games though, if a I.P is very well know I think if you don’t want Fan Games you should ignore them.
I think Fan games are can be Great advertisement(mostly because its free) as long as it is said to be a Fan Game and the developer(s) give the source of the Fan Game that is Great for big companies, I do under stand if a Fan Game is bad people may avoid the source but honestly they may not of like the source if that’s the case. I think the best way to enforce copy right is to enforce it if you are a small company or the I.P is not very known, but if you’re a big company or the I.P is very well known either Ignore it or embrace it. But what do you think, Do you Hate Fan Game, or Should Companies crack down of Fan Games?
