I’m going to talk about fishing in Games, I have given some of my views of fishing in Games such as fishing being good for Replay value and Quiet moments. Now my opinion on fishing in Games, is that it can be very fun if done right and depending on the Game’s design can be very useful in making the player feel engaged in the Game and I think fishing is often overlooked. It can be used in a large variety of ways like in a Survival Game for food, taking a break from exploring, collecting the different type of fish and many others.
Now, just like anything added to a Game, if it doesn’t appeal to a player there’s not much you can do about that except consider feedback, but that aside, a good way I think fishing can engage the player, is give the player a feeling of reward from fishing, rather than make it feel random you could add some type of score system for how many successfully caught fish in a row that will increase the chances of a rare fish or give experience points for catching a fish, how it’s implemented is up to the creator of the Game of course.
I think there are a lot of ways to use fishing in a great way and again depending on the Games design it may or may not need fishing in it, but if it does there are ways I think it could be made fun, like a quick time event for fishing or rapidly pressing a button or timing a button press, are all good ways to make the way someone fishes in the Game fun, but all in all, I think fishing is a great way to add variety to Games.
