Are Video Games Sexist

I going to be answering the question Are Video Games Sexist, this is just my opinion. First let’s define what Sexism is, Sexism means to be prejudice or discriminatory against a person, because of their sex. Now, let’s talk about the reasons why some may claim Video Games to be sexiest, those being damsel in distress trope, Sexualized women, Not enough strong female characters.

Is the Damsel in distress trope sexist? No, and how is it not sexist, easy, just because there is a Damsel in distress in a Video Game does not imply all women are Damsels in distress, there for the only way that one can call it sexist, is if one attributes sexism to the creators intention (Thus making it a opinion and not a fact).

Are Sexualized women in Games sexist? Again, No for the same reason mentioned in the “Is Damsel in distress trope sexist” section, I would even argue the opposite, Because one of the most overpowered thing that women have had over men throughout history is sexual attraction and given that humans are Sexually Dimorphic, most women can’t overpower a man with brute strength, so what else could they do? Use wits a woman with a hidden knife(or poison) against a disarmed unsuspecting man has a huge advantage. In short, sexy women have been the undoing of many men, I think to view this as sexist, is to deny one of the greatest strengths women have had over men for centuries.

Are there Not enough strong female characters? I don’t really know what they mean when they say this, to be honest, but I’ll break it in to to possible meanings. First If they mean female characters that are physically strong then I would beg to differ, because in many RPGs with Character Creation the female character is almost always the same as the male (Unless it’s like Mount and Blade) and there’s Lara Croft (Tomb Raider New and Old), Jade (Beyond Good and Evil), Chun li (Street Fighter 2), Mai Shiranui (Fatal Fury), Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI), Jill Valentine (Resident Evil) and Samus Aran (Metroid) to name a few and I could keep going so I think there’s quite a bit of strong female characters. If they mean strong as in character (Or personally) wise, I would disagree again because, most of the people mentioned above have very strong characters other wise no one would remember them. That’s what I think anyway, Do you agree or disagree? Do you think Games are Sexist?
